The Japanese Small Bag from MM6 Maison Margiela is the house’s most emblematic accessory, reimagined in a lightweight mesh fabrication. Defined by its sculptural triangular silhouette, the design draws inspiration from traditional Japanese origami, translating paper-folding techniques into a modern, architectural form.
Crafted with an outer in breathable mesh fabric and leather contrast details, the bag features two sections sewn together to create its distinctive structure. Snap buttons at the base allow the shape to transform through folding, echoing MM6’s deconstructionist codes. A leather cuff with a numeric logo, white stitch line at the back, and internal black label with white logo reinforces the Maison’s signature identity.
Since its debut in the Autumn-Winter 2009 collection, the Japanese Bag has remained a symbol of MM6’s conceptual approach—where everyday function meets experimental form and subtle subversion.
