Kenzo

From Japan to Paris

Kenzo was founded in Paris in 1970 by the Japanese designer Takada Kenzo. In 1964, Takada moved from Japan to Paris to pursue his dream of becoming a fashion designer. Before making his first clothing collection, Takada was selling jungle inspired interiors in his own boutique under the name Jungle Jap.

The iconic tiger print

In 2012, Humberto Leon og Carol Lim designed a men’s sweatshirt for Kenzo. The sweatshirt had Kenzo’s logo and a tiger on it, and when the design was released, the sweatshirt was sold out at the Kenzo flagship store in Paris after only a few hours. Since then, the tiger sweatshirt has become a design signature and is to find in almost every Kenzo collection. After the release of the Kenzo sweatshirt, Kenzo’s designs have been spotted on fashion enthusiasts and celebrities from all over the world including Jay Z, Kevin Hart, Beyoncé, Zooey Deschanel, Swizz Beatz, Selena Gomez, Spike Jonze, Joan Smalls, Lorde, NorthernSound and Rihanna.
